I was recently thinking of unusual events that have happened over the last few years, memory is a funny thing, sometimes it takes an event to bring up a memory you hadn’t thought of for quite some time.
Several years ago as we were preparing to move to Europe, we were cleaning house, ( as a house can only be cleaned when you don’t plan on returning to it) and my son was in the basement moving things around, when out of the corner of his eye he caught a movement of something at floor level.
After a bit of positioning he was able to see it was a fairly decent size garter snake, and as boys will be boys, determined he must catch it. There are 2 things to note here before I go on, 1. He believed garter snakes don’t bite and 2. Mothers are as fascinated with snakes as boys are.
After a bit of maneuvering he was able to corner and capture said snake, while at the same time yelling up to Mom to hurry and come see what he had found. Well as he nonchalantly handled the snake, the snake, terror-stricken and probably believing to be in imminent danger sunk his teeth into my son’s flesh at about the same time mom was arriving to see what all the commotion was about. My son, in complete shock that a non-biting reptile would stoop to such aggressive behavior, let out a shriek, and with bionic force flung his arm out with snake attached! The unsuspecting snake was launched into the air with such force that it scared the poop out of him, and both the airborne reptile and it’s bowel movement landed on his mother.
Both Mother and Son are doing fine, although immediately after this incident it was questionable what would happen to a son, who had perpetrated such an act on a Mother, might be!
I think I would prefer a bowl of lemons.
