The latest polls out have some amazing findings, Drinking red wine while consuming eggs over easy may lead to an increased risk of higher dry cleaning bills. Vigorous stair climbing while using your cell phone increases the likelihood of a missed step in your future. Breathing in air from the environment around you, and then exhaling will likely increase your need to repeat the procedure.
Obviously I’m trying to be funny, but this, is really no laughing matter. With our world growing more and more connected every day its effects on our society are having some unforeseen consequences! To make matters worse misinformation dispersed as fact (or at least perceived as fact) travels so quickly it is near impossible to take it back. That being said there is even more good news, health studies are one of the largest purveyors of confusion spewed out into the mainstream media, which society looks to for it’s most trustworthy source of pertinent information. All this creates an environment of helplessness for many, as people try to decipher what facts are credible versus incredible!
I am not a conspiracy theorist nor do I have an agenda to incite or inflame, but I must tell you yet more of what ails us. Grants are handed out to research laboratories many times with the expectation of certain findings, for example; lets say the government wants to conduct a study on the effects of aspartame on our children. So they grant money to the aforementioned laboratory to perform its research. then the results start coming in and a focus group of scientists look at the findings and depending on where the grant money came from and what they are hoping to ascertain from the findings the focus group will see if it’s possible see the results in the most favorable light, (hint, the way those who provided the grant money) wants to see those results. Now if the results come in that, (oh lets just make up an example), say aspartame is increasing the incidence of diabetes in our children. They then release the study so the public can be made aware. However, as “Paul Harvey” use to say, “and now the REST of the story. Let’s say that now a large manufacturer of sugared cereals that use primarily aspartame to sweeten those cereals gets wind of this, (and trust me there are people on their payroll who will get wind of it long before the results are even published!) Now they hire a research lab to study the same thing only this time the money and the results desired come from an opposing vantage point! I am sure you get the picture.
That is one tiny example of what is happening day in and day out. Unfortunately we the public are the big losers in this warfare because there are so many dissenting opinions on so many different topics that we end up doing a double take again and again. This confusion eventually takes its toll when we just stop trying to figure out how to be healthy. We throw our hands up and say well… we are going to die from something anyway, I might as well eat what I want on the way out!
I have good news and I have bad news But that is a Blog for another day!
I will say this we are not without hope, Thankfully answers are there if we are willing to look for them. I am willing and I believe many of you are as well.
